The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) was formed in August 1971 in Cooperstown New
York. It now consists of more than 6,700 members -- including many prominent writers, current and former baseball front office
executives and employees, and former players -- worldwide. There is no test a person must pass to become active. SABR is a
"baseball community" for anyone who is passionate about baseball or has an interest in baseball research, statistics,
The purpose of SABR is to promote and foster baseball research, as well as the preservation and dissemination
of the history and record of baseball. SABR shall carry out that mission through programs:
encourage the study of baseball, past and present, as a significant athletic and social institution;
encourage further research and literary efforts to establish and maintain the accurate historical record of baseball;
3) To encourage the preservation of baseball research materials; and
help disseminate educational, historical and research information about baseball.
SABR members have a variety of interests,
and this is reflected in the diversity of its research committees.
The SABR Executive Board is an all-volunteer
Board elected by the SABR membership each April. All SABR members in good standing are eligible to vote.

SABR has research committees where members with common interests focus
on researching, documenting, and analyzing topics in areas such as Ballparks, Baseball Biographies, the Business of Baseball,
the Deadball Era, Latino Baseball, the Minor Leagues, 19th Century Baseball, the Origins of the Game, Science and Baseball,
Statistical Analysis and many other related topics.

SABR produces an annual Convention each summer, featuring a variety of panels, research presentations, trivia contests,
and exciting guests. The 2011 Convention will be held in Long Beach, California from July 6th through 10th. It's a great opportunity
to meet baseball insiders, hear research presentations from knowledgeable analysts and researchers, and share a "community"
with other baseball lovers. It's also an opportunity to see games at Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
